Biography

Born in Ohio, I grew up in the country. I loved nature and animals, climbing to the top of large pine trees and playing on the local farm. My sister Nancy and I use to pass our summer days often building ‘houses’ out of the mounds of dirt at the new home sites that were springing up. We used our bare hands to ‘sculpt’ our kitchens and bedrooms, etc., and then invite each other over for tea and cookies. Actually we pretended we had tea, and our cookies were Wonder Bread. They were sweet years. Imaginations soared!

My teen years, I was lucky enough to have horses; Patch, Wizzie, Penny and Hank. They were hard work exercising, training and caring for, but I loved it. They kept me sane.

I struggled in school academically, but tried Vet school, Agribusiness and even the Helping Relations…but never felt sure of where I was going with it all. Until one day in the spring of 1979. I had a spiritual wake up call.

I went to sleep that night in Arizona one person and woke up someone completely different. My life paradigm had shifted, and my Faith was born. It is an incredible story of shame, pain, miracles and revelations…but it would not do it justice to speak of it here, but suffice to say my destiny was born.

As strange as it may sound, I distinctly remember hearing a still small voice whisper, “You are now an artist”. I almost laughed out loud, yet it seem right in light of my youth and the things I loved. My only obstacle was I knew nothing about being an artist except I had the Heart of one. I just began, at 22, at the beginning…

I took courses at Arizona State in the Design Sciences, and Fine Arts departments. I started in stain glass, a skill I learned from my college roommate, than in school my focus was painting, sculpture and design. I continued to take courses at other universities throughout the 1980’s, but for those who wonder about a degree, I don’t have one, instead I have over 100 hours of course work. I have a lifetime of doing and the learning never ends. I am in my 50’s now.

My opportunity to illustrate art for my friend Rick Suarez’s book The Lost Secret was really a jumping off point for me as far as fine art work vs. commercial. In the midst of the trial of my mom’s death 2 years ago and concurrently painting these images; God showed me His desire for my work. I hope you will come to this site to see what’s happening and please go the link for Fresh Start Ministries to inquire about the book.

My daughter Stephanie is my best work to date. I love her, my stepdaughters and my husband more then life.

So, "IN ALL OF THIS” ………………………………. Lisa
